Bertrand Picard, the first man to circumnavigate the globe in a balloon, also took part in the festival.

Apple has more cash than US government

Apple has more cash than US government
Apple has more cash than US government. Folks in the White House should be taking notice, because Apple now has more cash on hand than the entire US government. That’s right, Steve Jobs is the new Uncle Sam.

Apple has an astounding $75.88 billion in cash, while the United States only has $73.77 billion. At least now the US has someone to borrow from besides China.

The Financial Post reports this news, and you can check the United States Treasury and Apple’s last earnings call to compare. Apple actually has more money than that compared to the US, considering the US “operating balance” only refers to the amount of money the country can spend before it hits the debt ceiling.

With Apple in talks to buy the likes of Hulu and even Barnes and Noble, perhaps Jobs and company should set their sights towards Washington. The nation could use another bailout.

Apple can proudly say that it’s richer than one of the world’s largest and most powerful countries, and we’re not sure wether we should be happy or disturbed by that.

Caribbean Airline jet crashes and splits in two while landing in Guyana

Caribbean Airline jet crashes and splits in two while landing in Guyana. Passengers aboard Caribbean Airlines Flight 523 said they had begun to applaud the pilot's landing in the South American country when suddenly things went wrong.

A Caribbean Airlines jet from New York touched down on rainy runway, then slid through a chain-link fence and broke apart just short of a ravine on Saturday in Guyana. Miraculously there were no immediate reports of death among the 163 people aboard, despite several dozen of injuries.

Passengers aboard Flight 523 said they had begun to applaud the pilot's landing in the South American country when suddenly things went wrong.

The Boeing 737-800 apparently overshot the 7,400-foot (2,200-meter) runway at Cheddi Jagan International Airport and barely missed a 200-foot (60-meter) ravine that could have resulted in dozens of fatalities, said President Bharrat Jagdeo, who came to the crash site before dawn.

"We are very, very grateful that more people were not injured," he said.

Arnold Schwarzenegger museum opens in Austria

Arnold Schwarzenegger museum opens in Austria
Arnold Schwarzenegger museum opens in Austria. The world's first museum dedicated to former "Governator" and Mister Universe Arnold Schwarzenegger opened its doors Saturday in his birthplace of Thal in southern Austria.

The "Styrian Oak" himself was absent for the event, which was timed to coincide with his 64th birthday. But Schwarzenegger will attend a grander opening at a later date, organizers said.

Visitors, mostly locals, gathered for a first look at the two-story light yellow house in Thal, southern Styria, restored to look as it did when Schwarzenegger first came into the world on July 30, 1947.

Among the 1,000 objects and photos on display are his very first weights, with which the future champion bodybuilder started training, as well as the desk behind which he sat as California governor.

Monitors also recall Schwarzenegger's Hollywood career, with trailers from his various films, while a life-size model of his "Terminator" stands in a corner.

Exactly when Schwarzenegger will visit his first home for the grand opening was still unclear, but he was expected to bring with him a 10-foot (three-meter) high bronze statue he commissioned from a US artist to adorn the outside of the museum.

The former bodybuilder, actor and politician has sought to revive his film career since leaving the California governor's office earlier this year, but has mostly made headlines lately over his divorce from Maria Shriver after admitting in May that he had fathered a child with the couple's former housekeeper.

Spanish bank puts up Cristiano Ronaldo as collateral

Spanish bank puts up Cristiano Ronaldo as collateral. Cristiano Ronaldo, the most expensive footballer in history, has joined the European Central Bank (ECB) on a free transfer. Sources say the authorities want his help on the sovereign debt crisis by kicking the can further down the road.

Well, not quite. But Ronaldo could feasibly become ECB property after he was pledged as collateral for emergency liquidity support by Spain's struggling savings bank, Bankia. In 2009, one of the Spanish banks that has since become Bankia lent Real Madrid €76.5m (£67m) to pay the transfer fees for both Ronaldo and Kaka, the Brazilian forward.

It has now emerged that Bankia has put up the loan as collateral with the ECB in return for vital funding. If both Bankia and Real Madrid go bust, the ECB would own the two "galácticos".

The loan was rated AAA by Moody's, which judged the £80m Real Madrid paid Manchester United for Ronaldo and the £56m fee to AC Milan for Kaka a gilt-edged security as safe as US government debt for what that's worth. It is not known whether the ECB imposed a haircut on the collateral, though it is thought unlikely the Portuguese winker would have consented without advice from a professional stylist.

Collateralising the footballers is part of a rescue plan that has already seen Bankia take €4.5bn in state support. It was created earlier this year from the merger of seven troubled regional banks, becoming the country's largest savings institution. It plans a public listing to raise funds and bolster its finances.

The board is hoping the shares don't take a dive.

Kardashian is in high spirits as she attends Spice Girl Mel B's baby shower. Kim Kardashian put her wedding planning aside and stepped out for Spice Girls singer Mel B's baby shower in Beverly Hills, today
She is just a mere few weeks away from her nuptials to Kris Humpheries.

But putting her wedding plans to the side, Kim Kardashian rather had babies on the mind, today.

The 30-year-old reality star stepped out for Spice Girls singer Mel B's baby shower in Beverly Hills.

Kim was seen leaving for the party alongside her sister Kourtney, with both girls toting perfectly wrapped gifts for the girly celebration.

The brunette-beauty slipped her curves into a sheer zebra-print dress cinched at the waist with a thick leather belt for the occasion.

She accessorised the look with a black leather Hermes Kelly bag and a pair of her obligatory towering platforms.

Kim wore her hair slicked back in a tight pony and applied her usual smoky eye and pale lip make-up combination.
Sheer delight: The brunette beauty slipped her curves into a sheer leopard print dress cinched at the waist with a thick leather belt for the occasion

In stark contrast to her sister's monochrome look, Kourtney went more colourful for the occasion in some patterned chiffon shorts and a peach sleeveless shirt.

The 32-year-old extended her height in some beige strappy Christian Louboutin sandals.

Mel B's baby is due later this summer and will be the first child for Mel and her husband Belafonte.
Colourful: Kim's sister Kourtney went more colourful for the occasion in some patterned chiffon shorts and a peach sleeveless shirt

Announcing the pregnancy earlier this year, Mel said: 'We’re really excited. We wouldn’t have planned and waited for four years to have a baby if we weren’t really excited about it and ready for it.

Even though you can never really be truly ready.'

The singer also has two daughters - Phoenix Chi, 12, from her first marriage to backup dancer Jimmy Gulzar, and Angel, four, from her short-lived relationship with Eddie Murphy.

Stephen has a six-year-old daughter Giselle from a previous relationship.

Meanwhile Kim has been sticking to her vow to slim down for her upcoming wedding to Kris.

And she continues to show just how dedicated she is, as she set off for gruelling workouts at Barry's Bootcamp in Los Angeles two days straight.

While she went make-up free this afternoon, yesterday she looked more like her glamorous self after applying a bit of lipstick for a trip to the gym with Kris by her side.

With her wedding just three weeks away, Kim is leaving nothing to chance in her last minute bid to slim down for the big day.

The reality TV star has been hitting the gym not stop and has even enlisted help from not one, but two, personal trainers ahead of her big day.

Not letting up: Kim got a bit of encouragement from fiancé Kris Humphries yesterday when he joined her at the gym

She has hired Jennifer Lopez's coach Gunnar Peterson and Tracy Anderson, who is famous for her work with Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow, to whip her into shape.

The 30-year-old has said she wants to lose 15lbs before walking down the aisle.

Anderson, who sometimes trains her client twice in one day, tells Life&Style magazine:
Glad that's over: Kris walks with a towel over his head as he and Kim leave the gym

No joke: Kim was glad to leave the gym yesterday after her gruelling workout at Barry's Bootcamp, which is known for its high-intensity fitness classes

'We don’t want to take away Kim’s amazing curves, so we just do specific movements to tighten the skin and to pull the muscles tight against the bone.'

Peterson has her doing curls and lunges with him two to three times a week.

On top of that, Kim still plans to continue sessions at Barry’s Bootcamp, which offers high-intensity interval training classes.

Fashionable: Even when she's going to the gym, Kim makes sure to put on a matching ensemble

And it's no wonder she's pulling out all the stops as she works to looked her very best in a Vera Wang gown.

While she has only been engaged to basketball player Kris Humphries since May, she can't wait to be his wife.

She recently told Cosmopolitan Magazine: 'When you know you want to spend your life with someone, why wait?

'Plus Kris has time off over the summer from playing basketball, so it makes sense.'

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star says she knew early on that Humphries, 26, would be her future husband.

'I knew he was The One,' she says. 'Often in relationships, you try to mould yourself into someone you think the guy wants.

'But with Kris, I was totally myself from the get-go.

'And he was everything I'd ever wanted in a man. It all just worked.'

Zara Phillips Wedding Photos

Zara Phillips Wedding Photos
Zara's elegant dress transforms her into quintessential English bride. She is the royal known for her unconventional dress sense, with leopard print hats, a pierced tongue and plenty of cleavage her trademark.
Today though, the Queen's granddaughter put aside her more outlandish image and transformed into a quintessential English bride.

Her dress, by the Queen's own couturier Stewart Parvin, was a picture of elegant sophistication.

Kate joins the party on the Royal Yacht Britannia on the eve of another big wedding

Kate joins the party on the Royal Yacht Britannia on the eve of another big wedding. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stole the show last night as they boarded the Royal Yacht Britannia for a pre-wedding cocktail party ahead of Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall's wedding.
They were among scores of guests invited on board the vessel for drinks ahead of the couple's big day today.

The newlyweds looked a picture of happiness as they mingled with guests and family members - including Prince Harry and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.Zara and England Rugby star Mike did not hold back expressing their clear affection for each other, posing for one last kiss in front of well-wishers following their wedding rehearsal at Edinburgh's Canonbury Kirk yesterday.

Zara, who arrived at the rehearsal wearing flip-flops, jeans and a hoodie, swiftly transformed herself in a £500 tie-dye silk dress from the U.S. label Alice and Olivia for the evening celebration - although it did reveal a white mark where he bikini top had been.

Once on board the yacht, she was spotted laughing and joking with friends - many of whom were rugby player friends of her fiancé.

The couple were also joined by the Earl and Countess of Wessex, Zara's brother Peter Phillips and his wife Autumn - and of course the bride's mother Princess Anne and her father Captain Mark Phillips.

Guests were photographed in dinner suits and evening suits sipping pink champagne as the sun set over Edinburgh.

Princess Beatrice looked stunning in a purple dress and belt, while Princess Eugenie opted for a red number.

The Duchess of Cambridge looked striking in a bright green dress which she teamed with black heels.

The yacht, permanently moored in the historic port of Leith, served the Queen for 44 years - although she did not attend the festivities.

During that time Britannia carried the monarch and the Royal Family on 968 official voyages, from the remotest of the South Seas to the deepest divides of Antarctica.

Zara's parents honeymooned on the ship, cruising the West Indies in 1973.

During the pre-wedding rehearsal Zara - the Queen's eldest granddaughter - was joined by Zara's father, Captain Mark Phillips, and his second wife, Sandy Pflueger, and Zara's brother Peter Phillips.

Earlier, the bride had spent the day putting her own final touches in place.

She spent the afternoon with sister-in-law Autumn Phillips at The Balmoral hotel where she is staying in Edinburgh's city centre ahead of the wedding ceremony.

The event was the second night of drinking for many guests who had arrived in the Scottish city on Thursday, partying at the city's Tigerlily Hotel.

When the bar closed, the group headed downstairs to the hotel club, Lulu, where they declined VIP treatment and mingled with other revellers.

Spokesman David Johnston said: ‘They said they’d be perfectly happy just to have a couple of tables and were happy mixing with the rest of the crowd.’

The group drank Veuve Clicquot champagne and caipirinha cocktails as well as Grey Goose vodka with coke, lemonade, soda and Red Bull, and happily posed for pictures with other revellers.

They left at 2.45am. By 11am, 30-year-old Zara was back on the bubbly in the Bollinger Bar of the city’s £500-a-night Balmoral Hotel.

Affectionate: Zara Phillips rests her arm on her fiancé's shoulder and then around his waist whilst the couple mingle with guests ahead of their big day today

Unlike the other royal bride, Kate Middleton, who spent her last day as a single woman enjoying a formal lunch at Clarence House with her family, Zara was knocking back £95-a-bottle Laurent Perrier Brut Rose champagne with her mates and ordering rounds of sarnies.

Accompanied by, among others, her sister-in-law Autumn Phillips, Sky sports presenter Di Dougherty and television presenter Natalie Pinkham, an old flame of Prince Harry, she spent three hours in the bar and left not long before her wedding rehearsal.

Asked by her friends if she was going to take it easy on the day before her wedding, she laughed and exclaimed ‘no!’ Zara described herself as being ‘nervous but excited and happy’ and revealed that she and Tindall had been texting each other throughout the day.

Looking noticeably thinner courtesy of an intensive pre-wedding health kick, she chatted openly about her final plans for the big day.

Asked about her hair, she said ‘nobody would be bothered’ about it but asked some of her friends to help her get ready on the day.

She revealed how the reception, which will be held courtesy of the Queen at Holyroodhouse Palace, would last until 2am and each table setting had a mini-cake placed next to it for each of her 300 guests to take home as a ‘favour’.

All smiles: Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall looked happy as they arrived at Canongate Kirk for their wedding rehearsal ahead of their wedding ceremony
Support: Crowds of well-wishers gathered to cheer the couple as they emerged from their chauffeur-driven Jaguar

When Autumn married Zara's brother Peter in a lavish ceremony three years ago, Zara played the role of bridesmaid, wearing a strapless, green Vera Wang gown for the occasion.

While little is known as yet of the details of the nuptials, it is likely that Zara will have asked Autumn to return the favour.

The couple will exchange their vows in Edinburgh's Canongate Kirk in front of their families and friends in a private ceremony.

The reception will be held a stone's throw from the church, in the palace of Holyroodhouse, the official Scottish home of the Queen, who has offered the use of Holyrood house to her granddaughter as a wedding gift.

Lothian and Borders Police have been working with the palace and the city council to ensure the smooth running of the wedding.

Superintendent Ivor Marshall, the commander responsible for security arrangements, said the event is expected to attract significant public interest, despite being a private affair.
Dressed down: Zara and Mike Tindall leave the church after their wedding rehearsal - Zara opting for jeans a hoodie

He said the church's location, near the Scottish Parliament on the busy tourist hub of the Royal Mile presented unique challenges. While some roads will be closed, businesses will remain open.

He added: 'The police planning unit is well versed in assisting in the organisation of high-profile and large-scale events in Edinburgh, including the recent Royal Week, the Papal visit last year and the festival.

Therefore we will be drawing on that experience to keep policing costs to a minimum and ensure it's an enjoyable day for the couple, their guests and the public.'

Officers have surrounded the kirk since yesterday and barriers line the Royal Mile in anticipation of the crowds.

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh will join Zara's parents, the Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, at the wedding.
Standing on ceremony: Police guard the gates of Canongate Kirk as preparations are made for Mike and Zara's wedding

Anne's second marriage to Timothy Laurence was the last Scottish royal wedding, taking place in 1992 at Crathie Kirk near Balmoral.

Also believed to be attending are the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, or the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay as they are known in Scotland; the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge; Prince Harry; and the Duke of York and his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

Tindall is likely to have invited some of England's best-known rugby players who are colleagues and friends.

The event, in contrast to the recent wedding of William and Kate, will be private, and the doors will be closed to the media and public.

The wedding may be small in comparison to the scale of the last royal wedding, which was watched by an audience of 2billion internationally, but it has nonetheless been welcomed by Scotland's tourism bosses.

Mike Cantlay, who chairs tourism agency VisitScotland, said: 'The wedding represents an absolutely wonderful showcase, not only for Edinburgh but for the whole of Scotland.

'The Royal Family and Scotland have enjoyed a relationship for hundreds of years, and tourism has become a natural partner.

Latest visitor figures from VisitScotland for the Holyrood House, Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Yacht Britannia, Glamis Castle and Balmoral Castle suggest a surge of interest in the Royal Family.

Myleene Klass steps out in bizarre pair of oversized trousers

Myleene Klass steps out in bizarre pair of oversized trousers. Usually stylish Myleene Klass was spotted earlier today wearing an absolutely bonkers pair of trousers. Classical musician, model and television presenter Myleene Klass is usually recognised for her simple, classy taste.
So it was a shock when she was spotted arriving at ITV studios in London earlier today sporting a bonkers-looking pair of oversized trousers.

Notable more for their volume than the unusual Hawaiian print, they looked like they could have doubled as a beach break had the occasion called for it.

In order to make sure they didn't fall off her slim frame, Myleene wisely chose a knot-style belt to hold them up.

She completed the odd summery look with a leopard print bag, neon sunglasses and chunky orange heels.
All smiles: It was almost as though Myleene was in on the joke

The neon sunglasses were possibly the most on-trend item, ticking at least one of this summer's fashion requirements, and contrasting nicely with her red lipstick.

The Popstar To Operastar host seemed in a good mood, smiling as she sipped her Starbucks frappe.
Good mood: Perhaps Myleene just fancied a bit of seasonal fun

Perhaps it was this light hearted attitude which led to the conception of this wardrobe wonder.

Alternatively, the baggy look might have been due to Myleene feeling a little self conscious upon her return from holiday.

Last night the model tweeted: '@KlassMyleene: 10 stone heavier, 4 shades darker, 1 burnt bum later, I'm back from my hols. #homesweethome'
Small mercies: Myleene's simple black vest with the cutaway back provided a touch of style
